Environment Canada issues tornado warning for areas of east-central Alberta abstorm
, updated at 5:37 p.m., reported a rotating severe thunderstorm “possibly producing a tornado” near the village of Throne. The storm was moving southeast at 40 km/h, the agency said, adding that communities in its path include Veteran and Hemaruka.
Earlier, as of 5:20 p.m., the storm was reported near Coronation. Prior to that, around 5 p.m., it was located north of Castor. “Doppler radar indicates that this severe thunderstorm is possibly producing a tornado,” read the warning on . “Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. … Up to golf ball sized hail has been reported with this severe thunderstorm.”This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.“Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately,” the warning said.
“Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.”Share this article in your social network
