Adil Rashid took four wickets and England boosted its chances of reaching the Super Eight stage of cricket's Twenty20 World Cup by bowling out Oman for 47 en route to an eight-wicket win in a pivotal match for the defending champions. It then reached its target from a record 3.1 overs — 101 balls to spare.

England ’s Phil Salt is bowled by Oman ’s Bilal Khan for 12 runs during an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup cricket match at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua and Barbuda, Thursday, June 13, 2024. England ’s Mark Wood bowls against Oman during an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup cricket match at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua and Barbuda, Thursday, June 13, 2024.

It reached 50-2 from a record 3.1 overs — 20 deliveries, including a no-ball — led by captain Jos Buttler’s 24 from eight balls. Buttler won the toss and chose to bowl against Oman, theorizing that England would be in a better position to manage the run-rate equation if it was chasing. Buttler carried his bat to get England home with 101 balls to spare, hitting a six and four boundaries.

With its third consecutive win in the tournament, Afghanistan joined co-host West Indies in the next stage. Those teams meet Monday to determine top spot in the group.
