About 100 emergency response workers are participating in an emergency response drill at the Victoria International Airport on Thursday. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. travellers flying out of YYJ on Oct. 17 should not be impacted by the emergency exercise.
According to Rod Hunchak, senior director of business development and community relations, “there should be no impact to normal airport operations, including anyone travelling this morning. This would include no impact to check-in, security, and flight schedules.”“Only authorized personnel will be admitted into the exercise area. Airport operations will not be impacted while the exercise is underway,” according to the VAA.
Representatives from local fire departments, RCMP, NAV Canada and medical services are participating, including firefighters, police officers, and medical service workers. The event will take place at specific areas and according to Hunchak, it has been structured to “minimize disruptions and maximize learning outcomes.”
