The system has slowed down and angled more toward Los Angeles but is still expected to drop 2 inches of rain at the coast and up to 18 inches of snow in the mountains by Saturday.
Emergency crews across San Diego County are poised to respond to a big and potentially damaging storm that could drop upwards of 2 inches of rain at the coast and 18 inches of blinding snow in the mountains by Saturday.
The runoff could turn streams, rivers and flood channels into raging waterways, threatening public safety. The San Diego River in Mission Valley is expected to reach flood stage on Saturday night, which would cause localized flooding. “The lifeguards will sleep in fire stations near their assigned areas, if they get a chance to sleep,” Muñoz wrote in an email. “Let’s hope we don’t have to do these rescues, but we are available if the public needs us.”
Officials said 18 county crews were ready to respond to storm-related issues, from rock slides and downed trees to road flooding and snow-covered highways.
