October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and to help spread awareness a local organization in Elyria set up a silhouette display.
“This is the first time that I’ve seen it completely set up, in display, and it’s very moving,” Executive Director Jill Psota-Vazquez said.
“We were just setting it up and a few of us had to step outside of the room just because it was a lot to take in when you see it up close and personal.”Many of the victims’ ages ranged widely, the youngest being only 6 years old. “Often times these victims are suffering in silence, and we need to break that silence,” Executive Director Jill Psota-Vazquez said.
“We need to make sure their voices are heard, we need to let everyone know that somebody knows someone, and that this is 56 individuals that have been taken from our community– and that’s way too many.” The display will be available for community members to visit from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Friday, Oct. 27.
