They wanted me to say I’m retiring, that I’m stepping down,” Gold said. “I’m not retiring. I’m not stepping down. This wasn’t my decision. It was strictly their decision. My health is 1000% good,” Gold said. “There’s no problem with my health. It’s strictly a choice the University made. It’s been a great run and they can’t take those memories away. And they can’t take the fans away. They’ll continue to be onn my heart and mind whether I’m doing the games or not.
Throughout his career with the Crimson Tide, the university said Gold called the action for seven national championship games, 11 SEC championships and 35 bowl games.
