Members of Elgin Police Benevolent & Protective Association Unit #54 have taken a no-confidence vote against Police Chief Ana Lalley, criticizing leadership that they say has created a"toxic work environment."

Elgin police union members have taken no-confidence vote against Police Chief Ana Lalley, citing in a statement that she has created a “toxic work environment” and misallocates resources, hands down inconsistent discipline and doesn’t trust frontline staff to make decisions. Elgin Police Benevolent & Protective Association Unit #54, which represents 150 sworn officers, took the vote after polls and surveys showed members had many problems with department leadership that they wanted addressed in their next labor contract with the city, union attorney David Amerson said.

Lalley could not be reached for comment. Officials for the city of Elgin said a response was being prepared and would be released Monday. While a no-confidence vote has no legal standing, “we hope this is the opening of a conversation, not necessarily a hardening of positions,” Amerson said.Check back later for updates on this story.
