ICYMI: Elections Canada chief concerned about increased violence towards poll workers
Stéphane Perrault told MPs during a committee meeting Thursday that Elections Canada is considering hiring more security at polling stations or getting police forces involved.
On Friday, Elections Canada spokesman Matthew McKenna said there were 102 incidents flagged by staff throughout the election. Of that number, 78 required police intervention. But “any incident involving confrontational behaviour had the potential to harm the physical security of electors and workers alike,” the report added.Article content
