By contrast, Kaplan mentioned her own “strong first-place finish in the June primary,” alongside multiple endorsements from nurses’ and firefighters’ labor unions, the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, Planned Parenthood Advocates Mar Monte, 350 Bay Area Action, Black Women Organized for Political Action and the East Bay Stonewall Democratic Club.
On the same issue, Tam said “we desperately need to invest in both the infrastructure and train personnel, because we’re finding a shortage … of licensed clinicians therapists when it comes to mental health care.
Kaplan said she has more experience handling “county-level resources and responsibilities,” pointing to her time on the Alameda County Transportation Commission, her term representing Alameda County on the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, her service on the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Authority board, and her efforts working together with county public health, CalOES, FEMA, and others on the Coliseum-headquartered large-scale COVID-19 vaccination project in the spring of 2021.
