Canadian literary stalwart and radio personality Eleanor Wachtel is chairing the jury for the International Booker Prize , the prestigious literary award for the best works of fiction from around the world that have been translated into English and published in the United Kingdom or Ireland, with the £50,000 prize (just over $85,600 Canadian) split evenly between writer and translator. Wachtel was the co-founder of CBC Radio's Writers & Company, which she hosted for more than three decades.
Recently retired, she is known as one of the world’s finest literary interviewers. 'What an incredible experience to be chair of the jury of the most extraordinary book club in the world,' wrote Wachtel on social media platform X. 'The next few weeks will be daunting and exhilarating. Stay tuned.' The longlist for the International Booker Prize is scheduled to be announced on March 11, the shortlist on April 9, with the winner on May 2
