Joseph Pavlics, 86, was found lying in the roadway shortly before noon near 43rd Avenue and Bell Road. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene, Phoenix police said.
The vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene and the driver cooperated with investigators. Witnesses told police Pavlics entered the roadway on Bell Road and was hit by a van entering Bell Road from a private road.
