As of Monday, May 13, following a six-month pilot project, the force permanently deployed bodycams to all uniformed officers.
Several standards were evaluated during the trial, including the quality and accessibility of recordings, the impact on officer and citizen behaviour, logistical implications and associated costs.Chief Francois Levesque said increasing the public's trust in police is the priority. "The use of body cams has demonstrated potential to increase the transparency of police actions and strengthen public trust in our members," said Levesque.
Officers have undergone body camera training and received clear guidelines for its use, including being activated during police interventions, physical confrontations, or as required by law. "We are confident that this technology will continue to play a crucial role in the modernization of our police practices," said Levesque. It has been our privilege to have the trust and support of our East Coast communities for the last 200 years.
