An upper ridge over Alberta will bring Edmonton mostly clear skies and highs near 20 C early next week, after a cloudy Thursday with a high near 15 C.
An upper ridge moving over Alberta through the weekend will bring Edmonton a string of days with highs near 20 C and mostly clear skies early next week, according to the CTVNews Edmonton.ca weather hub. However, Edmonton remains on the leading edge of that ridge on Thursday, with clouds streaming through and an afternoon high near 15 C.
Thursday Showers Avoid Edmonton
A few showers and some mixed precipitation are hitting the foothills and mountain parks, and showers will develop across parts of southern Alberta on Thursday. All of that precipitation will avoid the Edmonton region, and conditions should stay dry right through to late next week.
Thursday in Edmonton features a mix of sun and cloud, with a northwest wind of 15 to 20 km/h in the afternoon and a high of 15 C. Overnight, skies will clear, and the temperature will be around 9 C at 9 p.m.
Weekend Warm-Up Builds Across Alberta
Saturday will be similar temperature-wise in Edmonton. The day starts out near the freezing mark in the morning and ends up in the mid-teens in the afternoon. The forecast calls for sunny conditions in the morning and partly cloudy skies in the afternoon, with a morning low of 1 C and an afternoon high of 16 C.
The upper ridge really starts to make its presence felt on Sunday as temperatures get close to 20 C. Sunday will be mainly sunny, with a morning low of 3 C and an afternoon high of 19 C.
Morning lows will climb to around 5 C for Monday through Wednesday, and each of those days has a chance to hit 20 C in the afternoon. Monday will be partly cloudy with a morning low of 5 C and a high of 20 C. Tuesday will be mainly sunny with a morning low of 6 C and a high of 20 C. Wednesday will be partly cloudy with a morning low of 4 C and a high of 19 C.
Long-Range Outlook Points to Late-Week Rain
Looking longer range, the ridge moves off late in the week, and there are early indications that some rain will arrive Thursday night into Friday. That pattern is still a ways off, so its development bears watching, but the models have been pretty consistent over the past day or two.
A cooldown is expected to end next week, with highs in the 10 C to 14 C range on Friday and Saturday. However, the Sunday and Monday of the long weekend should have afternoon highs in the low to mid teens.
