Edmonton Valley Zoo employee hospitalized after bite from Burmese python yeg

An Edmonton Valley Zoo employee was taken to hospital after being bitten by a Burmese python on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.According to the zoo’s website, the Burmese python can reach 7.6 metres or 25 feet in length. They have a lifespan of up to 15 years and live on a diet of rodents, mammals and birds. They are known to be good climbers and expert swimmers.
In the wild, the python is found throughout Southeast Asia, but its population is considered vulnerable as it is under extensive and widespread decline.
