Crystal Jean MacDonald, 44, was charged Wednesday with criminal negligence causing death, the Edmonton Police Service said in a news release. The charges were laid by the homicide section, police said. Just before 8 p.m. on April 1, patrol officers responded to a report of a dog attack in a home near 82nd Street S.W. and 11th Avenue S.W. in the Summerside neighbourhood.
Officers found a severely injured boy who had been attacked by two large dogs. Police attempted lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived. The boy died from his injuries soon afterward.Police said the dogs belonged to the father's roommate.
