Edmonton is starting to host more major sporting events, including FIFA matches and WNBA games. Now the city is hoping to add another big event to that list, the 2030 Gay Games.

WATCH: Edmonton is one of several cities in the running to host the Gay Games in 2030. The games combine sport and culture by bringing together more than 10,000 LGBTQ2 participants. Jasmine King has more on what the games could bring to Edmonton.

“I think all of us who live in Edmonton know how inclusive and wonderful a city it is, but it really gets to put us on the map,” said Dr. Kristopher Wells, Canada Research Chair for the public understanding of sexual and gender minority youth. Jay Rotteveel with Team Edmonton, a group that supports LGBTQ2 sports and recreation in Edmonton, says their organization was sought out to help put this bid package together.
