As Statistics Canada reported last week, Canada has a growing crime problem.

Non-violent CSI —for example, property and drug offences — rose 4% in 2022, which was 6% lower than in 2019, before the start of the pandemic. Statistics Canada said the latest data indicate the overall crime rate may be resuming an upward trend that was interrupted by the pandemic because of lockdowns and other government measures.
Given that crime rates dropped dramatically from the 1990s to 2015 — and again, temporarily, during the pandemic — it appears crime, and particularly violent crime, are on the rise again.
