In 2021, the Canadian government announced approximately $320 million in additional support for “Indigenous-led, survivor-centric and culturally sensitive initiatives and investments” to help Indigenous communities deal with the fallout from discoveries such as this.What’s important now is not just dealing with the past but also to find ways to heal and to improve the lives of Indigenous people for the future.
We must also ask ourselves what true reconciliation will look like. How can we prevent such abuses from happening in the future?
