St. John’s Sports and Entertainment Ltd. has suspended Newfoundland Growlers home games pending the results of an investigation into “allegations of disrespectful workplace conduct.”

According to St. John’s Mayor and Chair of SJSEL Danny Breen, employees of SJSEL brought forward these allegations against staff at the Growlers’ parent company, Deacon Sports & Entertainment Limited. The city says it will not provide details of the complaints.

“Given the seriousness of the situation we have no choice but to take this action,” said Breen in a statement. “While we know this is disappointing to hockey fans, the health and wellbeing of our employees is our top priority.”The Growlers have played at Mile One Centre since being founded in 2018. They are currently the ECHL affiliate to the Toronto Maple Leafs. After beginning the season with a road trip, their home opener was scheduled for Nov.
