Council hires consultant to design the skatepark plaza and track at City Park.
As part of its promise to prioritize youth amenities and services, Pittsburg plans to build a skate plaza, pump track and other improvements at City Park.
Zuna Barker Portillo, the city’s Environmental Health and Safety officer, said the recreation staff has been working on improvements to City Park for a while, hosting community design and focus group meetings since 2020. Community members then zoned in on the need for a skate plaza and pump track, she said.
The Pittsburg City Council agreed on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, to hire a consultant, Gates and Associates, to design a skate plaza and pump track at City Park. The exact size an design will depend on grants received. But the original $500,000 the city earmarked in the budget would not go far, making for only a very small park, so staff is hoping the city will go after grant monies to expand the size, Barker Portilla said. He noted the second cycle of a Clean California Local Grant will be deadlining in April and could provide up to $3 million in funding.
