9 years agoWith never-before seen videos and online chats, the fifth estate tells the real story of what happened to Amanda Todd, the B.C. teen haunted by one revealing photo on the Internet. The blackmail and the sexual extortion that drove her to her death -- and the new breed of online predators who threaten the many other young people who take risks online.
A jury delivered the verdict in Supreme Court in New Westminster, B.C., after one day of deliberation. Speaking to CBC outside the courtroom, Todd appeared overjoyed. While she said she didn't want to use "happy words" to describe the verdict, she said it was exciting to finally have some closure. She described the conviction on all counts as a "just" decision — one that came as a relief, many years after losing her daughter."She's not here, but she may be somewhere watching us. This is her moment," Todd added, thanking the B.C.
The verdict comes after seven weeks of testimony involving dozens of witnesses, exhibits and evidence presented by Crown prosecutors prior to the start of closing arguments.Parents, Dutch police investigator testify in trial of man accused of cyberbullying Amanda Todd "They asked me to convey their sincere appreciation to both the crown and defence for your professionalism and conduct throughout [the trial]," she said.Todd died by suicide on Oct. 10, 2012, at the age of 15, after being exploited online over a period of three years.
