In some cases, victims are getting calls from a scammer claiming they are from a power energy supplier and they are behind on payments.The victims are then asked to e-transfer funds to the scammer posing as the power company to pay off their balance.
DRPS warn that power supply companies will never ask for e-transfers, as this is not how legitimate payments are processed.Police say the victims get a call from a scammer claiming they are from their bank or cell phone company. The scammer will offer great deals on phones in exchange for the victims assisting with catching ‘bank criminals’ by offering remote access to the victim’s computer.Officers warn to never allow remote access to an unverified person.
