According to officials, there has been an eight per cent decrease in the region in the number of reported vehicle thefts so far this year. This is somewhat outweighed by a 13 per cent increase in the number of carjackings.Officers involved in Project Attire have started 865 auto theft investigations since then, leading to 81 people facing more than 350 charges.

Across the whole police service, the number of thefts is higher. Between January 1 and October 31, DRPS recorded 1,144 vehicle thefts.Moreira said Wednesday that since January 2023, around 25 per cent of people charged with vehicle thefts were also charged with failure to comply with a probation or release order.
