"Until the Court and the Judicial Conference take meaningful action to address this ongoing ethical crisis, we will continue our efforts to enact legislation to resolve this crisis," they added.To many Democrats, Alito's controversy reinforces their suspicions about conservative justices' sympathy for Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election, Axios' Andrew Solender reports.

Alito told the Times he had "no involvement" with the upside-down flag and that his wife "briefly placed" it "in response to a neighbor's use of objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs."was hung outside Alito's vacation home in New Jersey in July and September of 2023. The Revolutionary War symbol was embraced by right-wing groups and some Jan. 6 rioters.
