'You only get so many chances in this league.' Matt Duchene and the BlueJackets aren't taking their special playoff run for granted (reporterchris)
As for Duchene, this is the deepest into the spring he’s ever played and it’s not yet May 1. He’s fresh off the kind of goal he’s only previously dreamed of scoring — the double-overtime winner on Saturday night that silenced TD Garden, evened the series and sent the veteran forward to his knees in celebration.
Where an outsider might wonder how that type of group shuts out the distractions — the star left-winger, two-time Vezina-winning goaltender and second-line centre could all walk out the door immediately after this playoff run — it feels like it’s been a galvanizing force here. There’s literally no tomorrow for this iteration of the Jackets so they might as well make good on a year where they’ve already shockingly swept Tampa out of the playoffs.
They certainly look like a capable combatant for Boston after playing three overtime periods across the first two games of this series. Now they’re home with a chance to grab control in front of a crowd that has waited a couple decades to see a game this big.
