Drivers, parents and students should all be aware of their surroundings as they head back to school, according to a reminder by Durham police.
Parents should teach their children the rules of the road, including looking both ways before crossing the street, and crossing at the appropriate intersections.Drivers may want to head out early, to factor in a slightly longer commute. “It’s better to be a little bit late than in a rush and involved in a collision of some kind,” noted Tudos.“Avoid any distractions, especially this week,” said Tudos. “I know that kids are going to be excited to be going back to school.
As well, it is important to stop for school buses, even if they are travelling in the alternate lanes, as the students getting off may need to cross the road.
