OPP found more than $1,800 worth of suspected street drugs during vehicle search
On Aug. 1, 2023 shortly before 6 p.m., a member from the Batchewana First Nation Police Service was on patrol duties and travelling westbound on Trunk Road in the City of Sault Ste. Marie when the officer observed an eastbound car travelling at a speed of over 160 km/hr in a 70 km/hr zone.
The officer turned around and initiated a traffic stop on Parkland Crescent and arrested the driver. The officer searched the vehicle and located suspected fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine, and drug paraphernalia. Estimate street value of drugs is over $1,800.As a result, Devon Phillips, 28 years of age from Sault Ste.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on Sept. 11, 2023. None of the allegations have been tested in court and Phillips is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
