Driver rams fire truck, injures deputy in Alpine [Breaking]
A man allegedly attempting to evade arrest backed his pickup into a firetruck and injured a deputy who was trying to speak with him Monday morning in Alpine.
Deputies and firefighter paramedics were called a little after 7 a.m. about a man asleep at the wheel of a pickup parked at a Chevron station on Tavern Road, sheriff’s Sgt. Wes Hyde said in an interview recorded by OnScene.TV.When the man in the pickup was asked to step out of the vehicle, he accelerated in reverse with the door open and backed into the fire truck.
The suspect, 32, of National City, was taken into custody without further incident, Hyde said. He is expected to face charges of DUI, assaulting an officer, and more.
