A man was arrested and then released after driving his car into 25 police recruits who were out on an early-morning run in Los Angeles on Wednesday, November 16.
Nicholas Gutierrez, 22, drove the wrong way down a Whittier, California, road where 75 police recruits were running at 6:29 a.m., while it was still dark, injuring 25. He was arrested for attempted murder on a peace officer, according to aThe Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told media outlets that Gutierrez was released “due to the extreme complexity of the investigation.”

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva told media outlets that the crash was a “deliberate act.” Gutierrez can be seen veering out of his lane and into the group of runners. “Road guards” ran on the outside of the recruits, wearing reflective vests, and the group was escorted by two patrol cars, according to ABC News.
