A woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly driving erratically and damaging seven parked cars in Victoria on Christmas Eve.
Victoria Police are asking any potential witnesses or victims to come forward after an alleged impaired driver went on a hit-and-run spree on Christmas Eve. Police say they were called to the intersection of Heywood Avenue and Oliphant Avenue just before noon on Dec. 24 for a report of a motor vehicle incident, but soon after they arrived they learned that seven parked cars were damaged in hit-and-run crashes.
Investigators report that a female driver in a stolen white Honda Civic was observed in the vicinity, swerving on the roads and colliding with parked vehicles, said VicPD in a release. Police say they found the stolen vehicle crashed into another parked vehicle near Pemberton Road and Fort Street shortly after they arrived. No driver was found at the crash site, but just before 12:30 p.m. that day, police say they found the suspected driver nearby. The accused, Judyann Marie Desjarlais, appeared in court on Christmas Day to face seven charges: theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a conveyance, operation of a conveyance while impaired, driving while prohibited, fail to stop, possession of stolen property, and breach of probation. VicPD says Desjarlais was held in custody until her next court appearance on Jan. 2. Court documents from Thursday morning show that Desjarlais is expected to appear in court in Port Alberni for six charges – all of the same ones she was charged with on Christmas Day except for breach of probation. In an update Thursday, VicPD told CHEK News that investigators were still hoping to speak with potential witnesses and victims following the alleged hit-and-run spree. We are seeking more witnesses and any who may have dashcam footage, said VicPD in a statement Thursday. The hit-and-runs largely took place in the Fernwood and Rockland areas, and investigators released a list of blocks where damage took place, or where witnesses reported seeing erratic driving around noon on Dec
