Alec Pierce of the Cincinnati Bearcats is a great athlete, brilliant student and ambitious selection for the Colts at No. 53 overall in NFL Draft.

Pierce is a slightly smaller, more athletic version of Michael Pittman Jr., who blossomed last season into the Colts’ No. 1 receiver: 88 catches for 1,082 yards after being a second-round pick in 2020. Pittman is 6-4, 223 pounds. He runs the 40 in 4.52 seconds, and has a vertical of 36½ inches. Pittman has strength Pierce lacks, though, and runs with a ferocity normally reserved for NFL running backs, or brahma bulls.
Ballard likes ‘em big and fast. Michael Strachan is 6-5, 224. Dezmon Patmon is 6-4, 225. Pittman is 6-4, 223. Pierce is 6-3, 213. Neither Strachan nor Patmon could get on the field last season when the Colts had arguably the worst receiving corps in football.
