Senators GM Pierre Dorion says the Senators are in a sound position after six years of a rebuild as he sells himself to new ownership
On Monday, though, Dorion gave some life to another option, the possibility that he sticks around as general manager but with a new coach in place.
“Every year, it’s part of my job to re-evaluate everything,” Dorion said. “What we asked D.J. in the first three years was to develop our young players. He’s done that. This year, the mission changed, where it was about winning more. And we won more.” It must be pointed out here that Claude Julien spent an awful lot of time in the Senators press box during the season.
It’s rare for one general manager to have the opportunity to hire three coaches during his tenure with his team. Dorion also brought in Guy Boucher in 2016 after Dave Cameron was fired.Article content If they had consistent netminding — Talbot had an .898 save percentage, while Anton Forsberg was at .902 and rookie Mads Sogaard checked in at .889 — the Senators might be still paying this week.
