A six-word phrase in Donald Trump's latest request to delay proceedings in the classified documents case has sparked discussions online.Lawyers for the former president wrote to Judge Aileen Cannon, who is overseeing the federal case, asking her to push back a deadline for when the defense can disclose who they intend on calling as expert witnesses in the trial from Tuesday until July 8.
'They told Judge Cannon that they have informed the special counsel's office about the expert subjects they intend to present at trial 'should there be one,'' Feuer wrote.In reply, California-based lawyer Patrick Grannan suggested the phrasing was 'weird.''I've probably done hundreds of expert witness disclosures. It's a standard pretrial requirement,' Grannan wrote. 'Not once did I feel compelled to add 'at trial should there be one.
