President Donald Trump took a break from his working weekend at Camp David to praise his golf course in Turnberry, Scotland — which Golf World magazine recently named No. 1 in Great Britain and Ireland for 2020.
The president made his comment Sunday in response to last week's tweet from Trump Turnberry's official account celebrating the Ailsa course's ranking. Turnberry moves up two spots from last year, overtakingTurnberry has hosted the British Open four times, the last in 2009, when Stewart Cink defeated Tom Watson in a playoff.
Trump purchased the Turnberry golf course and resort in 2014. The course underwent major renovations shortly after it hosted the 2015 Women's British Open, but it has not been the site of a major golf championship since then. Trump's passion for golf has been well-documented. His club in Bedminster, New Jersey, hosted the U.S. Women's Open in 2017 and is scheduled to be the site of the PGA Championship in 2022.
