The eldest son of U.S. president-elect Donald Trump's private visit to Greenland has ignited speculation about the potential for the incoming administration to seek control of the Danish territory.
Donald Trump Jr. arrived in Greenland on Tuesday for a private visit, sparking speculation about the incoming U.S. administration's intentions regarding the Danish territory. The Danish state broadcaster reported his plane landed in Nuuk, Greenland 's capital. Greenland 's government stated that the visit was private and officials would not meet Trump Jr. Authorities were informed he would stay for about four to five hours.
There were no requests for official meetings with government representatives from Trump Jr.'s delegation, nor did the Greenlandic government request a meeting. This follows President-elect Donald Trump's repeated expressions of interest in acquiring Greenland, despite Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede's calls for independence from Denmark and his assertion that Greenland is not for sale. Denmark's King Frederik X has also been asserting his kingdom's rights to both Greenland and the Faroe Islands
