ICYMI - Don't overstay, respect the lineup: How to be a good restaurant customer
Most customers have arrived well educated about how to go out during the pandemic. But a small minoritysometimes need stronger reminders about what to do to keep themselves, other customers and restaurant staff safe and healthy, restaurant workers say.
At the Grand, hosts have four tasks on their checklist with respect to arriving guests. They must ask each arriving party about the health of customers. They take down contact details from one person in the group to assist with contact tracing in case someone at the restaurant later becomes sick. Hosts must explain the new protocol surrounding menus, which at the Grand includes the choice of a single disposable menu or the scanning of QR codes on the table.
“People are looking for that social interaction that they’ve been deprived of for the last three months,” says Aghar. He cites the example of men wanting to interact with a group of women at another table“There’s no moving tables, no going over to other people’s tables. You just have to be respectful of other people’s space,” Aghar says.
