The Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers could face off on German soil down the road.

They faced off Saturday at the Canadian Tire Centre as Draisatl’s Oilers scored a 6-3 victory over Stutzle and the Senators.

Mannheim was supposed to host Global Series games in 2021, but those were postponed because of COVID-19. There was talk the Senators and Oilers would head overseas to start this season, but it never came to fruition. Draisaitl finished with two assists and was plus-1 Saturday. Stutzle did a good job blocking a shot on Draisaitl in the first. Stutzle went straight to the bench, but was fine. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Not only did they lose goaltender Anton Forsberg it also appears they’ll be without rookie defenceman Jake Sanderson as they prepare to face the Calgary Flames on Monday at home and the New York Islanders on Tuesday on the road.

There’s no timetable on his return and, if he’s out for any length of time, that’s a big hit for the Senators because Sanderson has been one of the club’s most consistent defencemen this season.
