Domestic airfare is up 40% from the start of the year and is expected to climb another 10% next month, according to online booking platform Hopper.
One expert said that higher jet fuel prices and a rise in demand are driving overall domestic airfare up, with prices expected to keep rising as summer travel season approaches.
Hopper said the cost of a domestic round trip is averaging $330 -- 7% above 2019 prices. For international trips, the average round trip cost is $810, up 25% from the start of the year.Pent-up demand and rising prices of jet fuel are driving the change.
