According to an indictment, the 49-year-old Philadelphia man lit incendiary devices and threw them onto the porch of three separate properties in Tacony, causing them to ignite and start a fire at each residence.

DOJ officials say on all three occasions, the device ignited and started a fire on the porch of each residence.

Philadelphia police released surveillance video of one of the incidents over the summer as they worked to identify a suspect. Philadelphia police say they are searching for a suspect who was caught on video throwing an incendiary device at a house, causing it to catch fire in Tacony.The case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Philadelphia Police Department.

Mattis appeared in court on Thursday and is expected to be detained until further proceedings continue.
