Roberts dropped Muncy to seventh in the lineup on Wednesday but said it was just a “one-game thing” and remains hopeful that Muncy’s season-long slump will abate.
ST. LOUIS — When the Dodgers placed Max Muncy on the injured list in late May, he was batting .150 with a .591 OPS and only three home runs in the season’s first six weeks.
For the first time since the 2020 season, Roberts dropped Muncy to seventh in the lineup. But he said it was just a temporary response to the matchup with St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright and not a sign that Muncy’s season-long struggles had finally prompted Roberts to move him into a less-prominent spot in the lineup.
“That’s fair,” Roberts said. “I still think that trying to peel back the results and how we’re getting there – him staying in the strike zone, getting off good swings, I think I’ll still bet on the results albeit they haven’t been what any of us would expect.
