Neurosurgeon Ray Baule’s last visit to New York City included seeing Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden. This time, he is working in the intensive-care unit at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, where he did a general surgical internship in 1992.
Dr. Baule, 55 years old and from North Carolina, is one of nearly 2,000 volunteer physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and certified registered nurse anesthetists who are lined up to donate their time and skills to New York City Health + Hospitals, the largest public hospital...
