Doctor Who's Whoniverse officially begins with Tales of the TARDIS, but the spinoff's premise and canon status is wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Tales of the TARDIS will officially cut the ribbon on Doctor Who's Whoniverse, but - somewhat predictably, given the show's infamously complex continuity - where the spinoff sits within Doctor Who canon remains murky.
Each Tales of the TARDIS episode will, however, primarily be a commentary on a classic episode. Peter Davison and Janet Fielding, for example, will be discussing 1982's "Earthshock," which featured the shocking death of Fifth Doctor companion Adric.
On the other hand, Tales of the TARDIS is clearly taking a more relaxed approach to canon than the main Doctor Who TV show. Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury will be reprising their roles as Second Doctor companions Jamie and Zoe, respectively, but both ended their TARDIS tenures in separate timelines having lost their memories of traveling with the Doctor.
Naturally, many of the actors involved in Tales of the TARDIS look older than they did during their original Doctor Who tenures, and there are several ways the spinoff may account for this. The most straightforward explanation is that whatever force brings these old friends together plucks them from their respective timelines many years after they departed the TARDIS, meaning the likes of Jamie, Peri and Ace have all aged naturally.
