To the untrained eye, the Fourteenth and Tenth Doctor have the same look, but David Tennant's new Doctor Who costume is actually a radical redesign.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT David Tennant's Fourteenth Doctor may have the same silhouette as the Tenth, but his new Doctor Who costume is different in a number of ways. Tennant returns to the role of the Doctor for Doctor Who's 60th anniversary special, and it's been teased that there's a very good reason why the Fourteenth Doctor looks so similar to the Tenth.

The Fourteenth Doctor's Costume Explained What Does David Tennant's Costume Mean For Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary? Close The Fourteenth Doctor's costume was designed by Pam Downe, who gave the Tenth Doctor's costume what David Tennant told the Radio Times was "a radical redesign." Russell T Davies previously said that he was adamant that David Tennant should not be seen wearing Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who costume.

How The Fourteenth Doctor's Costume Compares To The Tenth Close The long overcoat, suit and tie, and Chuck Taylor Converse made up the iconic look of David Tennant's Tenth Doctor. The costume would change from episode to episode, with a variety of shirts and ties. The alternative blue suit was introduced in Doctor Who season 3 and Tennant would alternate between the two for the rest of his tenure.

The Fourteenth Doctor's overcoat is also substantially different from that of David Tennant's 10th Doctor. More fitted than the baggy tan brown Alcantara overcoat, the Fourteenth Doctor wears a more tailored navy blue overcoat made from Shetland tweed. The suit underneath the overcoat is also different, with Tennant wearing a brown, blue and white checked pattern instead of the brown and blue pinstripes of his previous costume.
