David Tennant's new Doctor steps out of the TARDIS in a recently shared video from the set of Doctor Who's ongoing 60th anniversary special's filming. The Tenth Doctor star was previously confirmed to return for the show's 60th anniversary celebrations alongside Catherine Tate. The 60th anniversary productions and following seasons are helmed by returning showrunner, Russell T. Davies.
Doctor Who is currently on a trajectory to celebrate many major milestones in the next few years, beginning with the airing of a special episode that will celebrate the BBC's centenary and mark the final adventure of Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor on-screen. The current Doctor and showrunner Chris Chibnall will depart from the series following three seasons on the show.
The new video follows recent images of Neil Patrick Harris' character emerging from the currently ongoing filming in Bristol. Harris, who was revealed to be joining the 60th anniversary production as a currently unknown villain on June 13th, 2022, was seen dressed in a suit and top hat while brandishing a cane amidst chaotic scenes of extras fighting, as well as having a brief exchange with Tennant's Doctor.
While fans may still have some time to see Tennant and Tate's return to the show in 2023, this recently released set video not only offers a glimpse at the returning stars, but potentially offers hints at what their new stories may hold. Not only does the overheard dialogue suggest Tennant and Tate's dynamic will be similar to what was seen in season four of the revived series, but the mention of Mel may hint at the return of a classic companion.
