DoctorStrange will have an unlikely teacher in MultiverseOfMadness - and he's not going to like it. 'He's such a know-it-all all the time, and to have to learn from a kid probably smarts,' says director Sam Raimi.

America Chavez will have a lot to teach Stephen Strange in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Master of the Mystic Arts have always known the multiverse exists. After all, in the MCU sorcerers conduct magic by drawing energy from other dimensions, using it to reshape reality on this plane of existence. But, for all the Ancient One taught her students to tap into multiversal magic, in reality, their role has simply been to prevent incursions into this dimension.

The multiverse lies at the heart of the MCU's Phase 4. Doctor Strange himself broke the barriers between dimensions in Spider-Man: No Way Home, with an ill-considered memory spell backfiring and drawing beings from other timelines into the mainstream MCU. But the multiverse looks set to be fragmenting in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, although as yet it's unclear just who is really behind the catastrophe.

It makes sense for Marvel to introduce America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the comics, she's a superhero who originates from another dimension and considers herself the multiverse's surgeon. Assuming Gomez’s version is the same, she'll have already saved countless dimensions, and she'll presumably cross Doctor Strange's path as she once again attempts to save the multiverse itself.

It remains to be seen how good a teacher America Chavez will be, of course. The multiverse is second nature to her, meaning the very things Doctor Strange finds confusing about it are probably things she has never thought to question. Still, at the very least America Chavez's powers will mean she'll be an effective guide in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
