Residents can hear more about plans to relocate the Cuyahoga County jail in Garfield Heights during a community conversation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday in the Garfield Heights Civic Center’s main dining hall, 5407 Turney Road.

Jones said at the time that he not only had reservations about the proposal but that he was “also deeply concerned that I made the public and private request that we have public engagement, so that I might hear the concerns of the residents beforehand, and that did not happen.” He voted against buying the property at that time.Garfield Heights’ mayor and city council have already been advocating to bring the jail to their city.
Residents from other parts of the county, however, have been vocal in opposing a Garfield Heights jail, which they say isthe communities whose residents end up there. City of Cleveland officials also worry about the impact losing the jail could have on its budget, if income taxes go with it.
