Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife, Olena Zelenska, face accusations from some online that they indulged in a vanity project by posing for Vogue in the middle of a war zone.

However, in this photo, a rear wall is lined with sandbags, presumably to help fortify the building from missile strikes. The president stands guard behind her.
A caption for one of the war-themed photos, shared on Vogue’s Instagram account Tuesday, reads: “In Ukraine, tens of thousands of women have been on the front lines, including in combat, and first lady Olena Zelenska’s role has increasingly turned toward frontline diplomacy.” Certainly, Zelenskyy, a former TV personality in Ukraine, has never avoided the limelight, and he’s been credited with using his media savvy to keep the suffering of his people in the headlines ever since Russia launched its internationally condemned invasion in late February.
Others, commenting on Vogue’s Instagram account, also wondered if the couple had crossed a line in the way they let Leibovitz pose them.
