DLT Malta returns for the second time. We sat down with the founders and spoke about the brand's beginnings, what we can expect in Malta and the pressure on Black-owned parties.
It’s 6:58 pm on a Sunday evening. You have your alarm set for 7:00 pm on your phone, while your laptop is out and ready for any needed assistance. You know the drill, it’s time to get ready to fight for tickets. But these tickets aren’t for thetour, this is for DLT – also known as Days Like This. DLT has taken over the Black partying scene in London and beyond. Last year, the brand exceeded expectations when it brought their infamous parties over to Malta for its first festival.
“We lived in America and saw there was a gap in the market in terms of day parties, so we started it for fun. I think as time went by, we started to realise the events were becoming popular so we had to think about how we can come up with new ideas to make people stay interested in what we’re doing,” Iban says.
“Yes and no,” he says. “I feel that people get bored with things quite easily in London. We're always looking for something new to do. So I guess we'd like to take time out to kind of refresh and think about what we're doing in the new year and come up with new ideas as opposed to just throwing events.”
As the girls on TikTok would say, the pressure was getting worser – the brand faced online critique when observing the organisation of the festival. Hopeful attendees felt that the brand stalled when releasing tickets for the event. Some users even doubted if the festival would take place.
