Matt Logie becomes the second straight coach from Division II PLNU hired by a Division I program, after Ryan Looney left for Idaho State in 2019
There are several ways to become a head coach of a Division I basketball team. You can have an illustrious NBA career and return to your alma mater. You can toil for years as an assistant, working your way up and hoping to get a chance.Montana State plucked Matt Logie on Monday after four years at PLNU. Before him, Ryan Looney went to Idaho State after three seasons and a run to the Division II national championship game.
“I’m confident that it will continue to be an attractive job, and hopefully we’ll land someone soon.” His Sea Lions teams reached the NCAA Tournament in all four years, although the 2020 tournament was canceled by the pandemic. This past season, they went 20-0 in the PacWest Conference and finished 29-4 overall, losing to Cal State San Bernardino in a close game in the Sweet 16 despite their top two players being injured.
