It was a difficult day of testimony on day two of a jury trial in Yarmouth in which a Yarmouth County man stands accused of the murder of 26-year-old Colton Cook.

The Yarmouth Justice Centre. TINA COMEAU PHOTOYARMOUTH, NS – There is a silence inside a courtroom that is different from other types of quiet.

Standing trial is Robert Charles Rogers, 59, who is charged with second-degree murder in the September 2020 death of 26-year-old Colton Cook. Rogers is also charged with interference with human remains. In its opening statements on the first day of the trial, Crown attorney Bob Morrison said Cook was shot, stabbed and dismembered. In court on Jan. 11 came the introduction of photographic exhibits and evidence that Justice Pierre Muise cautioned the 14 jurors would be disturbing.

On Sept. 27, 2020, Snooks decided to look around the area where the truck had been to see if he could find any clues to Cook’s whereabouts. Other people, including Cook’s parents, had also converged on the area. As Snooks was walking, a piece of material in the grass and alders off the trail caught his eye. When he got closer, he saw it was a severed leg.

The court heard that the RCMP had previously been in the area, both on the day the truck fire was reported on Sept. 26 and on the morning of Sept. 27 after Colton Cook had officially been reported missing by his family.Photographs and memories are all Colton Cook's family has left of him.
